You've thought about your goals. You're clear why you want what you want and what it will get for you. And, you've visualized achieving your goals in rich sensory detail. Now what?
Get them out of your head and on to the paper or somewhere else where you can see them and review them regularly. Why? Two reasons, commitment and focus.
It is an urban myth that the 3% of Harvard graduates in 1953 who wrote down their goals earned 10 times more money than the rest of the class over a 20 year period. However, a more recent study by Gail Matthews at Dominican University arrives at a similar conclusion. And, according to Harvard success scientist, Dr. Stephen Kraus,
"There’s a power to the simple act of putting something in writing. It enhances commitment, maximizes motivation, and diminishes the wiggle room that opens the door to revisionist personal histories (e.g., not putting forth your best effort, but rationalizing it as “I never really set that goal, anyway”). "
Vision Board. Put images and words about your goals on a poster board. Here is a great how to blog post by Christine Kane with some creative ideas and options.
Computer Images. Create your vision board on your computer and post it as your screen saver or wallpaper. This is my tool of choice. I use Masterboard and you can find a post along with a copy of my board here.
Vision Statement Movies. If you have the time or the computer skills to make one, do it! You have the opportunity with a vision statement movie to add rich visual detail as well as music and movement which are much more stimulating to your subconscious. A number of my clients and associates raved about Malcolm Cohan's workshops earlier this year or if you'd like to try a go of it yourself (like I am), here is a good tutorial on getting started.
Whether you write them down, create paper or computer images, or a movie - remember to review your goals daily. Twice daily is even better. You will send clear objectives to your mind on what you desire to achieve, improving your opportunities for success.
To your success,
Lora
