Apparently there is a game of tag going around the blogosphere to which I have been completely obliviously and nevertheless have been tagged by blogger Kent Blumberg over at his leadership blog to reveal "Five Things You Might Not Know About Me." To be honest, I am not a big fan of games. However, I am a big fan of creating connection. In The Coach Approach to Leadership and Management program we present at The Coach Approach, we hold a stake that revealing and transparency are key leadership skills that connect people in organizations.
So to honor Kent's tag and in the interest of creating connection, here are five things you might not know about me:
1. I grew up in a small town in northern California believing we were rich because we had a built in swimming pool in our backyard. My parents raised four children on a plumber's wage.
2. I was sent to the principal's office in eighth grade for refusing to stand for the pledge of allegiance to the flag when there was no flag in the classroom. The principal demanded that I stand whether the flag was present or not. I pointed out to him that the words were meaningless if there was no feeling or consciousness about the exercise.
3. My favorite color is orange.
4. While I have a degree in business from U.C. Berkeley, I believe in magical thinking, the law of attraction, and that miracles really do happen every day.
5. I get up most mornings at 5:30 a.m. and journal every positive thought that comes to my mind, the things that I am grateful for, what I want to attract, my big goals and my intentions for the day.
In doing this exercise, I notice the vulnerability in revealing and fears of being judged and wondering what stories people will make up based on tidbits of information. And, I know that the revealing is for the sake of connection. So with that, I must now "tag" five others. I tag Dave Peck, David Zinger, Steve Roesler, Jon Willis (yeah I know you are working on it) and Room 54 (which is password protected and shall be open to the public soon).
With gratitude,
Lora
